The topic of my thesis is how to understand motivation, practical reason and normativity from a Kantian perspective. In the first part of the thesis I develop an interpretation of Kant’s theory of imperatives, his theory of rational agency based on the concept of maxims, and his views on moral motivation and wrong-doing. In the second part of the thesis I engage in some contemporary debates in metaethics and argue that Kant’s position is attractive because it allows us to solve some problems commonly associated with alternative philosophical views.
